Research and Development Engineer

VerBau, located in Belgium and France, is a young, dynamic company specialized in the manufacture of quality desserts. Founded in 2010, the company currently plays an important role in the dessert market.

As part of our development, we are looking for an R&D Engineer for our Leuze-en-Hainaut site.

Your responsibilities

  • Together with the Group's R&D Manager, you will respond to requests from the Sales department in order to meet the expectations of our various customers.
  • Taking into account industrial feasibility, budgetary impacts, quality standards and food safety regulations, you will participate in product & process developments/improvements.
  • You will organize/participate in steering meetings to monitor the progress of each project in line with site procedures and requirements.
  • You will be responsible for planning/organizing/monitoring the production of samples for the R&D kitchen.
  • Working collaboratively with the planning, production, quality, maintenance, and other departments, you will coordinate the planning of R&D trials and the various stages of implementation using different tools, in compliance with the procedures applied on site. These trials are subject to specific monitoring, the summaries of which are used to evaluate the results obtained (organoleptic criteria, technological yields, microbiological evaluation by comparison with expectations) and to guide action plans.
  • During project implementation, you will work with the purchasing, quality, sales, and production departments, etc., to compile all the output data needed to finalize the dossiers.
  • During industrialization, you will assist all site teams in validating the conformity of processes and products as defined in the documentation system.
  • In the event of recurring industrial technological difficulties, you will work with the team in charge to find ways of resolving the problem.
  • You will contribute to and update the PLM development monitoring program.
  • In conjunction with the Quality department, you will be responsible for the documentation related to the service, in order to meet certification requirements (BRC/IFS).

Profile / Skills required

  • You have a degree from an engineering school or a Master of Science specializing in agri-food or equivalent.
  • You have at least 7 years of experience in a similar position, ideally in dessert processing.
  • You are passionate about product development and working on processes.
  • You are creative, inquisitive, and able to make suggestions.
  • You are familiar with the practice of testing to ensure the sensory, physico-chemical and regulatory qualification of your developments.
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working closely with a variety of teams (production, quality, purchasing, sales, etc.).
  • You are methodical, rigorous, and pragmatic in the approach and follow-up of your projects.
  • You have scientific expertise in microbiology and/or food chemistry.
  • You have a good command of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
  • You are fluent in English.
  • A passion for patisserie and a good knowledge of ingredient functionality would be an asset.
